Megan Cunningham
Megan (she, hers) grew up commercial fishing with her blended adoptive family on the West Coast of British Columbia. She has been married to her partner for twenty years, has three children, and lives on a hobby farm within the unceded territory of the K’omox First Nation.
Megan is currently a Master of Counseling Student who draws upon 15 years of experience working in a variety of roles as a Registered Nurse in mental health and substance use.
She has a special interest in working with; trans and gender diverse folks, adoptees, and persons diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar, and borderline personality disorder. Megan uses the Compassionate Inquiry approach to assist clients with tapping into their innate wisdom to heal and develop compassion and understanding for themselves.
Megan appreciates humour, warmth, humility, authenticity, and vulnerability when choosing a counselor for herself and endeavors to model these principles for her clients. She is informed by intersectional feminist and queer theory, which has been helpful to examine how cultural norms can support social inequities and impact mental health.
